The seasons change and so do our skin’s needs. Changing your skin routine through the year could be the secret to glowing skin all year round…

The cold might make your skin dry, while the heat might make your skin oily. Changing your skin routine through the seasons can help you keep up with your skin’s needs all year round.

You need sun protection all year

Whether you’re light-skinned or dark-skinned, we all need sun protection all year round. Enjoying the summer sun also means you are exposed to the sun’s harmful UV rays. One of the most beneficial changes to make to your skin routine is to increase your sun protection.

Sunscreen or cream with an SPF of at least 15 is a must-have throughout the year. Add wearing a hat, using an umbrella and sunglasses to your sun protection toolkit for extra coverage.

Check your moisturiser

Your skin reacts differently to different weather. Some people become oily in the hot weather, while others get dry, patchy skin.

Make sure your moisturiser is suitable for your changing needs. Do not hold on to a moisturiser just because it served you well through winter. Choose your moisturiser based on your skin’s current needs.

Getting a skin assessment at a beauty salon is a great start if you are not sure what your skin needs right now.

Exfoliating isn’t a one size fits all

There are so many exfoliating face washes on the market that many of us are convinced we need to exfoliate our faces every day no matter our skin type.

Exfoliating is a type of deep cleaning for your skin. While oily skin could benefit from exfoliating more often in summer, over-exfoliating dry skin can make it dryer, irritated and sensitive. Instead of blindly following the instructions on your beauty products, see what works for your skin and adjust your routine accordingly. Some people’s skin responds well to daily exfoliation; others only need to exfoliate once a week.
