Braais are an exciting way to have friends and family over for a meal.

Here are some simple suggestions on how to keep your braais healthy, especially if you have them regularly and do not want your waistline to grow.

Try out different meats

If you tend to usually braai red meat only, it may be time to try something new. Chicken and fish can give you refreshing differences in flavour when braaied. Be careful when braaing fish though, as the flesh tends to cook rather quickly and is delicate.

Side dishes

Throw in some vegetables and enjoy the delicious burst of flavour and nutrients that they will add to your meal. You could further keep your meal healthy and colourful by preparing a green salad. Add some tomatoes too!

Go low on the sauces

Go low on the sauces especially if they are shop bought ones that are highly processed. Opt to make your own sauce at home or perhaps even skip it altogether. Keeping the calories down can be easier than you think.
