Hundreds of people gathered at the Mthatha Airport in the Eastern Cape to welcome Zozibini Tunzi home for the first time since she scooped the Miss SA crown

Zozibini, who grew up in the village Sidwadweni in Tsolo, was welcomed home by excited fans who packed the airport parking lot to capacity.

People ululated, sang traditional songs and played gqom music to show their excitement.

Mhlontlo Local Municipality Mayor Nompumelelo Dywili, King Sabata Dalindyebo Mayor Nyaniso Nelani and praise poet Zolani Mkiva were also present at the airport.

IOL reports that Zozibini told the crowd of people at the airport that she was humbled by the turnout

“It is such an honour for me to arrive to such a crowd, I expected people to be here but not to this magnitude. The whole week has been a new experience for me and I am truly tired. Please join me and my family tomorrow at my village, Sidwadweni, as I will be hosting a celebratory function with my family,” the publication quoted her as saying.

Taking to Instagram, Zozibini also shared videos and pictures of the joyous occasion.

“I have never in my life imagined coming home would be like this. It is indeed true that it takes a village to raise a child. Thank you kubantu bakuTsolo nase Mthatha for coming to see me at the airport. I’m forever grateful,” she said.
