If you have ever spilled make-up on your clothes, then you know the struggle is real

Getting eyeliner, mascara, foundation and lipstick spills and smears out of your clothing can be a nightmare, but with some easy tips and tricks, you can give your clothes a new lease on life – a makeover!

Oil-based foundation, lipstick or mascara

Liquid foundation will very quickly soak into the fibres of your clothing so the sooner you attend to the stain the better. Lipstick is oil-based and so the same stain removal technique can be applied here.

To remove the stain, start by scraping off any excess product with a plastic knife or spoon.

The next step is to gently dab the area with a damp paper towel to absorb as much remaining foundation or lipstick as possible. Next, apply surgical spirits to a cotton ball or pad and blot directly onto the stain until it begins to fade away.

Now, pretreat the garment with liquid detergent, rubbing a small amount directly onto the stain and allowing it to absorb for 10 to 15 minutes. Finally, wash the garment according to the fabric care instructions – and voila, job done!

Liquid eyeliner stains can be treated the same way as foundation, lipstick or mascara stains. However, eyeliner pencil requires a different technique.

Begin by scraping off the residual make-up from the surface of the garment. Next, blot the area with a dry tissue or paper towel until no more of the stain can be lifted.

Spritz the area with water, without soaking the fabric. Pour a drop of dishwashing liquid onto a clean fabric cloth and rub directly onto the affected area, lightly working the soap into the stain.

Finally, wash the item as normal with your preferred laundry detergent, following the directions on the care label.
