DJ Cleo came under fire, even though he meant well, when he pointed out at that Zozibini Tunzi won Miss SA with a “R30 haircut”

It all started after Cleo like the rest of SA wanted to applaud Zozibini for embracing her natural beauty and for deciding not to wear a weave or wig during the pageant.

Taking to Instagram, DJ Cleo weighed in on the conversation around Zozibini rocking her natural hair.

“A girl with a R30 haircut won the Miss SA pageant against R5 000 wigs/weaves. I simply love this natural look. Zozibinzi Tunzi is a true ambassador for African beauty,” he said.

Cleo added that Zozibini was a true inspiration to young girls.

Cleo also warned that some people may miss the point of the message

And, he was right because soon the comments section of the post was filled with people dragging him for pointing out that Zozi had a R30 haircut, while some told him she was more than her hair.

During her acceptance speech at Miss SA, Zozibini said that she hopes to have inspired at least one person to embrace their beauty.

“I came into this competition with my natural hair as a symbol of my firm belief in fair representation of any shape and form. And so, through my win, I hope I have inspired people, even if just one person to be themselves at all times and to never compromise their identities, and to insert themselves in spaces where they feel that people like them do not belong.”
