Take time out for yourself daily to destress. It can help prevent you from gaining weight.

Many people seek comfort by consuming high calorie foods when experiencing stress. These foods are popularly known as comfort foods. Some common comfort foods that many people tend to indulge in during this time, include macaroni and cheese, ice cream, chocolate, and fried foods among others. If you are prone to this type of behaviour, consider making some time for yourself daily in which you can destress. De-stressing may help to reduce the need to turn to comfort foods.

Ways to destress

There are many ways in which one can destress. You could chat to a friend, engage in an exercise routine (or simply go for a run), or even keep yourself busy with a hobby. Do whatever you enjoy and you will feel much more relaxed afterwards.

Remember that exercise and some hobbies will help you to burn calories especially if they require physical activity. Consult with your doctor before starting any new exercise regime or making intense changes to your current one – especially if you suffer from any medical conditions and for some reason are required not to place your body or yourself under any form of stress or strain.

If you cannot seem to find relief for your stress, consider talking to a professional counsellor. They are there to help you so do not feel apprehensive.
