Skincare is one of the best areas to invest in, but here and there you can find a great steal. There are a couple of skincare brands out there that make great skincare products available at great prices…
SOiL Organic Rose Hip Oil, R115 for 30ml
I love a good oil in my skincare routine, and Rose Hip is one of my favourites. It’s high in both Vitamin A and E, and is used to treat sun damage, uneven pigmentation, and fine lines. This one is packaged in a bottle with a pipette for easy dosing and application, and carries organic and fair trade certifications. Get it here, from Dis-Chem pharmacies or most health shops.
Avene Xeracalm Balm, R400 for 400ml
If you like a smart buy, I have a good one for you. Avene Xeracalm Balm is indicated for dry, itchy skin and is intended for head-to-to use. If you have dry skin you can comfortably use this as a face moisturiser, and at R400 for 400ml (or R300 for 200ml) the value is fantastic.
Xeracalm Balm leaves my skin feeling soothed and nourished, and I especially enjoy using it over retinol or AHA treatments.

Garnier Oil Infused Micellar Water, R100 for 400ml
I’m not a fan of face wipes and I find micellar waters massively overrated – except for this one. The added oil means you don’t have to excessively rub your skin, and there’s no burning or tightness afterwards – something I experience to some extent with just about every other micellar I’ve tried.
In the exceptional situations when I want the convenience of face wipes, I’ll either use this or the face-wipe version of it (here).
Find it at Clicks, Dis-Chem and large supermarkets.
The Body Shop Silky Camomile Cleansing Oil, R230 for 200ml
Facial cleansers are very literally washed down the drain after a minute, so if you’ve read a few of my writings, you can pretty much skip to the next article now.
If you haven’t: Don’t spend a lot of money on cleansers. Make sure they don’t mess with your skin’s natural pH (your skin shouldn’t burn or feel tight) and if you can wrap your head around it, opt for non-foaming cleansers.
Find this one at Clicks or The Body Shop.
