Sugar has, over the last few years, become public enemy number one in the world of diet, nutrition, and weight loss…

Almost every diet-guru under the sun has made statements about how sugar is the thing that’s killing us. And for the most part, they are right. You see, modern food is FULL of sugar.

Food companies add the sugar into the food to make it more palatable, because the refining and processing they do strips out a lot of the goodness and natural flavour of food. These ADDED sugars are the ones you want to avoid.

Here are some things to consider when thinking about added sugar in your diet:

1.     SOME sugars are not BAD for you

There are sugars that exist in lots of the foods you SHOULD be eating, like fruits and vegetables. These are naturally occurring in the food, and are easily processed by your body, and used for energy and other parts of your body’s natural functioning.

You DO NOT need to cut these out of your diet, because the quantities are small (unless you’re eating twenty apples every day), and the sugars are actually useful in a healthy body. Plus eating fresh fruits and vegetables add a healthy dose of fibre, vitamins and minerals to your diet.
