Hosting a gender reveal party is an exciting way to share your special news with family and friends
Long gone are the days where a baby’s sex is casually mentioned in everyday conversation…
In today’s Pinterest-loving world, over-the-top gender reveals are a Thing (like excited parents-to-be need another reason to go all out!).
An excuse to throw an epic party aside, gender reveals allow moms- and dads-to-be to get creative and celebrate their happy news with family and friends – especially if they have been trying to conceive for a long time, undergone fertility treatment or have kept the pregnancy a secret!
Relaxed or elaborate, the ideas are endless – here are five of our favourite that you’re welcome to steal! Think smoke bombs, confetti-filled balloons and colourful cakes…
5 Gender reveal ideas you can steal
1. Smoke bomb
Gather in an outdoor space and let loose a smoke bomb like SA power couple, Heinz and Alette Winckler recently did!
Pink or blue; the smoke coupled with your excited reaction will give you a reveal that’s picture-ready!

2. Balloon release
Possibly the most classic gender reveal is opening a giant cardboard (decorated, obvs) box filled with blue or pink helium-filled balloons.
Have someone record it in slow-mo for extra effect to share with friends and family via Whatsapp or social media.
3. Silly string
It’s not a party, unless there’s silly string…
Disguise cans of silly string, so that guests don’t know what colour they are. When you’re ready, get silly and let the stringing begin!
4. Colourful cake
This idea is both cute and practical – as once you’ve revealed your baby’s sex, you can treat the guests to a slice of yummy cake!
Have your gynae write baby’s sex down on a piece of paper and hand it to your local bakery (or your mom) asking them to bake a blue or pink cake, covered in vanilla or chocolate icing!
Ask guests to gather around as you cut the cake to see what you’re having!
5. Balloon pop!
Ask your local party shop to fill a solid black balloon with pink or blue confetti, and then ask family and friends to gather around as you pop it!
Coloured, flying confetti will reveal your baby’s sex and make for a super cute photo or video that you can treasure forever!
