The numbers are going up, but are the women going up or down?
According to the SA Institute of Race Relations, the number of women in Parliament has increased by 56% – from 111 in 1996 to 173 in 2009. This represented 43% of the total of 400.
But, by being elected, did these women climb the ladder of success, or slide down the slippery slope?
According to a recent All4Women poll our readers regard politicians as the least trustworthy of all professions. More than 51% voted them the least trustworthy, followed by insurance brokers (11%) and car salesmen (10%).
