Wimbledon may be over, with two nail-biting finals and two very worthy winners, but while the games took centre court, the Royal Box at this year’s event certainly grabbed everyone’s attention.
From the appearance of Duchess Kate and Duchess Meghan enjoying the women’s final together, to the various other celebs and royals who enjoyed the privileged seats during the tournament, there was no shortage of ‘big names’ at Wimbledon 2019.
Celebrity Wimbledon fans included Sir Cliff Richard, Spice Girl Geri Horner, Sir David Attenborough, David Beckham, Jude Law, Hugh Grant, and Mary Berry.
So what exactly is the Royal Box?
It is the section of the centre court reserved exclusively for the British Royal Family. It contains 74 seats reserved only for invited guests – you can’t buy a seat there no matter how fat your wallet is!
Guests are invited by the royal family, or on their behalf, by Wimbledon chairman Philip Brook. And don’t think you can rock up in jeans and a T-shirt. Smart attire is required – men must wear a suit, tie and jacket, and women aren’t allowed to wear hats.
After the matches are over for the day, the guests are invited to lunch at the Clubhouse.
