Because side stripes might make you think of tracksuits, it can be hard to think of them as belonging on anything else. But actress Khanya Mkhangisa shows that stripes on suits look chic, elegant and ultra-glam.

While a few celebrities have tried and failed to combine sporty and formal styles, Khanya Mkhangisa has proven it can be done. If you love her side-striped suit as much as we do, here’s how to steal her style.

Can you wear tracksuits as formal wear?

Don’t let the stripe on the side of the pant leg fool you, these are not your average tracksuit pants. The biggest mistake people make when trying to combine formal and sporty style is thinking it will work with just any tracksuit. Look for pants that are good quality and preferably embellished in some way – like these side-stripe options.

A tracksuit top or hoodie is definitely not what you are going for with this look. If you can’t find a matching side stripe blazer, a semi-formal jacket in the same colour as the pants will work too.

Keep it sporty

Keep a bit of the athleisure in your look by wearing a sporty crop top. In the cold, you can cover-up a little by zipping or buttoning your jacket closed. A vest or t-shirt would work just as well if you don’t like crop tops.

The glam factor

A fabulous pair of heels is non-negotiable with this look. Khanya loves her red bottom heels which also pick-up on the red stripe on her pants and jacket. Patent leather is not only fashionable, but it works well with this look, even without the red bottoms. Any detail that adds to the glamour of your outfit is a plus. Of course oversized sunglasses are a given!
