The Little Things That Make a Big Difference’ is an article series outlining weight loss and diet interventions that may seem insignificant, but can make a huge difference to the success of your diet plan.
Use your feet
Today’s world is all about doing everything faster. This means that when it comes to getting from place to place, we want to be transported by vehicles with engines, so we can move quickly.
The problem with this, is that our bodies get very little in the way of stimulation when we’re not in the gym. And losing that little bit of extra stimulation really can add up to a big loss in terms of energy expenditure.
In short, you could be burning a lot more energy every day if you could add some walking to your routine.
There are a few ways to do this
You can park further away from wherever you’re going and walk to get inside. You can take the stairs to your office or meeting place, instead of using the lift. You can take a ten minute walk every hour and call it your ‘smoke break’. You can get a dog or two, and walk them in the morning and/or evening in your neighbourhood.
Doing some of, or all of, these will make a substantial difference to your weekly calorie-burn, which will make a difference to your weight loss. Walking is easy, it makes you feel good, and you can help your diet by doing it.
So do it as much as you can.
