We don’t always think about tooth decay being a problem for babies and toddlers, but it’s a common issue, and it’s serious
Formula, rooibos tea, fruit juice – many babies are given bottles filled with sweet liquids throughout the day and night.
While we might not think anything of our baby’s bottle-drinking habits, it could be weakening their teeth and allowing cavities to form.
That’s because the sugar from these liquids washes over their teeth, leading to plaque which releases harmful acids, which in turn damages their little teeth.
While this can happen many times throughout the day, experts say the risk of damage is highest when you give your baby a bottle just before bedtime – as the sweet liquid stays on your little one’s teeth for several hours while they sleep.
