Let’s be honest – great underwear is pricey. And undies that make you feel like a million bucks are priceless! With these quick tips, you’ll keep your expensive lingerie items looking good for longer…

Wash tips for the most delicate fabrics

When it comes to lingerie items, always pick the wash temperature and style that’s suited for the most delicate fabric in the mix. That could be the frothy fine lace, or a silk thread… .it doesn’t matter. If you’re not sure what’s in your specific item, then you can’t go wrong with ‘hand wash’ temperatures of 20-30 degrees Celsius, or a cold water wash if you’re really in doubt.

For coloured items, toss in a ‘colour catcher’ to prevent colour runs. You’ll find them in any laundry aisle.

Hand wash made easy?

Hand washing sounds like another chore you don’t need, but it can be well worth it for special lingerie pieces. Using water that’s comfortable on your hands, simply swirl the items gently through the soapy water, and let them soak for 5-10 minutes.

Don’t scrub and wring! If absolutely necessary, rub fabric-on-fabric, rather than using a scrubbing brush. Then gently rinse until clear.

Handwashing not for you? Most modern washing machines have a ‘hand wash’ or ‘gentle’ cycle that mimics this. To keep your lingerie pristine, disable the spin cycle and wash them separately using a mesh lingerie bag. This will help prevent warping and damage.

Drying your delicates

When you’re done, don’t wring the garment viciously! Rather lay them on a towel, and dab or roll the towel up around them to gently squeeze out excess water. Then lay flat away from direct sunlight to dry.

With these tips under your belt, you can afford to buy the pricey lingerie – because it will look good for years!
