Ice-Skate at Baywest
Port Elizabeth’s Baywest Mall has a fantastic ice rink for rainy days and holidays. Nearby in the mall, there is also a games arcade, where the hours will fly by as your teens and tweens get lost in the games.

Tenpin bowling at the Boardwalk
If loud music, cool lights, and the ultimate showdown in tenpin bowling sound like a fun way to spend a rainy day, head to the Boardwalk on PE’s beachfront. There is also a bar and room to sit and socialise.
East London Aquarium
As the oldest aquarium in the country, this is well worth a visit. Although some of the exhibits are outside, there is still plenty to see indoors.
Dodgems
Test your skills in the dodgem cars at the Hemingway’s Mall in East London. Although there’s bumping between these cars, it is safe and supervised for all ages.
Other
Of course, there are plenty of other things to do with your children on rainy school holidays. These aren’t area-specific and we encourage you to get creative and work with what you have.
Here are some ideas:
- Go to the movies
- Have baking days at home
- Put a scrapbook together of a past family holiday or family event
- Visit the local museums and galleries
- Make home videos and get the tweens or teens to edit them into a cool production
- Start crafting! Origami boxes, collages, scrapbooks, drawing, modelling clay, knitting and crocheting, paper flowers, bookmarks, fabric painting, mobiles… the list is endless.
