Utility is the coolest trend right now. Sporty athleisure is being replaced by relaxed, cargo looks in khakis and military greens.

Way back in the days of the war, governments introduced utility clothing for economic purposes. People sold and wore utility clothing and didn’t bother themselves too much about how fashionable the trend actually was.

But now, utility is back with Hermes, Coach and Alberta Ferretti all showing off the trend at their recent shows.

Demi Lovato, Kim K, Karlie Kloss and Rihanna are all fans of the utility trend

If you’re not sure what utility is, just think lots of pockets or anything that you could wear on a really glam camping trip. This week we shopped our favourite utility pieces.

Jam packed jackets

Our days of complaining that men get all the pockets are over. Utility fashion is all about pockets and high-functionality. These jackets are great for winter and all you need to do is throw them over a pair of jeans and a cute top.

Pretty pants

As with jackets, utility pants have pockets on pockets. Remember J-Lo’s pants in her Get Right video? Well that style is back and as much as we love neutral and calm tones on utility pants, don’t be afraid to delve into a little colour. Utility pants are also a great alternative to jeans.
