Can you really get a six-pack in twelve weeks?

“Do this plan for twelve weeks, and you’ll be six-pack lean, and ready to go to the beach all summer long!”

The six-pack. We all have a six pack, it’s just that for most of us, it’s “in the fridge” or covered by some belly fat. When we see people with six packs, we think that they are really ‘toned’, and they walk around like that all the time.

But the truth is, that for the fitness models in most of those images, they have dieted down, and worked really hard for a few weeks to get “six pack” ready for a photoshoot or a big competition. While they do have strong builds and toned bodies, their six packs don’t stick out that much when they are living normally and eating normally.

So why are six packs so fashionable? Why does everyone want one?

The fashion industry and media have promoted the idea that “looking hungry” or super thin is a good thing, so everyone wants a six-pack.

This means every diet out there is willing to promise you one, in as little as twelve weeks (this seems to be the magic number for most). But can a person who is even moderately overweight really get a six-pack in twelve weeks without weird drugs and other dodgy methods?

The bottom line is that they can’t

Why? Well, getting a six-pack is tough. You have to build up your stomach muscle pretty intensely, and also diet your body fat down to around ten percent before you’ll see your stomach muscles.

And getting from twenty five percent to ten percent takes a lot of time, and even more discipline. You know those bodybuilders you see in magazines? They DON’T have a visible six-pack most of the year.

They diet down for competitions. Why? Because six packs are tough to maintain diet-wise, and it’s difficult to train hard on restricted calories.

So can YOU get a six-pack in twelve weeks? Very likely not.

BUT. That doesn’t mean that you can’t lose a successful amount of weight in 12 weeks. Or change your lifestyle, or achieve at least some of your diet and nutrition goals. Just because a six-pack is off the table, doesn’t mean you should just give up. There’s never a better time to change your life than right NOW.
