The Capsicum Culinary Studio is known for producing world-class chefs and staff in the hospitality and food service industry and their core focus is ensuring that students get as much real-world experience as possible to prepare them for what lies ahead. This is how the idea to start a restaurant that offers healthy, filling and good food at an affordable rate came to be.

Eat! On Keyes is surrounded by beautiful gardens right in the heart of Rosebank. While dining there, you’ll forget you’re in the city and will instantly relax. Guest can either sit inside the restaurant or on the patio overlooking the gardens.

Chef Tyrone Kleynhans, the Executive Chef at Eat On Keyes, explained that by running a restaurant, students are able to get a true understanding of the industry from food service to cooking and menu planning.

While the chefs and hospitality staff are students, there does need to be a bit of room for forgiveness as they are trying new things but I found it to be very good, the staff extremely helpful and couldn’t find fault with my meal.

I ordered the Eggs Benedict (like I usually do when it comes to breakfast food because while I’ve learned to make poached eggs, I have yet to perfect Hollandaise sauce). Others went with the omelette, full breakfast or bagel. Everyone said that their meal was delicious and they all looked instaworthy.

What we like about EAT! on Keyes

  • an amazing venue with beautiful gardens right in the heart of the Rosebank
  • extremely well-priced food (where else can you get Eggs Benedict for R40?)
  • breakfast is served all day
  • a variety of breakfast and lunch options (think salads, full breakfasts, muffins, pastries, sandwiches)
  • great service (the staff are students that are training to work in the hospitality industry)
  • delicious coffee (I had two cups)
  • all menu items are available as take away items (all in biodegradable packaging)

A true test of a foodie review always comes down to one thing for me: would I go back and would I use my own money to do so? The answer is yes! This would make a perfect working space for when you need to get out of the office but is also a great place to escape the bustle of the city for a moment of tranquillity and delicious food.
