The ‘Gallup 2019 Global Emotions Report’ has been released, offering a snapshot into people’s positive and negative daily experiences…

The results are based on more than 151 000 interviews with adults in over 140 countries in 2018.

According to the report, overall stress levels dropped two percentage points from the previous year, but anger increased by two points – hitting a new high. Worry and sadness, which were already at record levels, each increased by one point from the previous year. Experiences of physical pain remained unchanged.

Chad tops the list of the most negative country in the world with a score of 54. According to the report, this partly reflects the violence, displacement and the collapse of basic services in parts of Chad that have affected thousands of families. In 2018, more than seven in 10 Chadians (72%) said that they struggled to afford food at some point in the past year.

But it’s not all doom and gloom

According to the report, 71% of people worldwide said they experienced a lot of enjoyment the day before the survey. Paraguay has the highest Positive Experience Index score worldwide of 85%.  Latin American countries dominated the list of countries in 2018 where adults reported feeling a lot of positive emotions each day.
