Why is alcohol bad for you?
Drinking too much alcohol can affect you both in the short as well as long term. An individual may experience nausea and indigestion in the short term.
In the long term, consuming excessive amounts of alcohol may lead to conditions such as cirrhosis of the liver, fatty liver disease, heart attack or liver cancer, according to WebMD. It can also affect your digestive system by causing inflammation of the stomach lining.

Note that not all social activities need to involve the use of alcohol. Take time to plan your entertainment around other social activities that do not involve alcohol.
For example, instead of meeting friends at a bar for drinks, why not go for coffee and cake. Change your social activities until you find that you are better able to control how much you consume. Consider going to the movies and have dinner afterwards if you find that you consume more alcohol if you drink whilst braaing.
