Local singer Moonchild flew the flag when she took to the stage at Coachella over the weekend

The prestigious music festival takes place over two weekends in California from 17 – 21 April.

And this past weekend saw the likes of Ariana Grande, Cardi B, Selena Gomez, Childish Gambino and Jaden Smith deliver rocking performances.

Our very own Moonchild served major Mzansi heat on stage, as well, as a guest of US DJ Diplo.

Moonchild performed her hit song iWalki Ye Phara and had the crown rocking to the beat

Video clips of Moonchild’s performance made its way onto Twitter on Monday and Mzansi couldn’t be prouder.

This isn’t the first time that Moonchild has taken Mzansi to the world. She’s previously performed at the SXSW Festival in Texas and the Primavera Sound festival in Spain.

Moonchild told IOL that she was like a “kid in a candy store” at Coachella because she got to show off the different genres of music she’s passionate about

“I could go to jazz, I could go to hip-hop, I could go to soul, kwaito, gqom, anything. It’s a privilege to be able to do so many different songs and not be stuck in one genre. How many artists have you seen who do multiple albums then want to change their sound and no one wants to support it?

“No one is ever surprised by what I do because I’ve been so expressive. I never wanted to be in a box. I don’t like boxes, unless it’s a box of condoms,” she said.
