According to Snow Report SA, there is a chance of snow over the Drakensberg this afternoon and possibly into this evening…

“We have seen a fair amount of volatility in the data though, with up to 23cm still being indicated in the early update today but through the day we saw a reduction to a maximum of 18cm. At this point we’re not expecting low-level snow anywhere,” said the organisation. Snow Report SA said more updates would be issued through their Facebook page over the course of Friday and the weekend.

According to the South African Weather Service, Severe thunderstorms are expected over the Free State except the north-east, the extreme north-eastern parts of the Northern Cape, the central and western parts of the North West, and the Highveld and escarpment areas of Mpumalanga.

Heavy rain is expected along the coast and adjacent interior of KwaZulu-Natal except the north coast.

1. Gauteng:

Fine in the north at first, otherwise cloudy and cool with scattered showers and thundershowers.

2. Mpumalanga:

Fine in places at first, otherwise partly cloudy and cool, becoming cloudy with scattered showers and thundershowers from afternoon but widespread on the Highveld and along the escarpment. It will be warm in the Lowveld.

3. Limpopo:

Fine and warm to hot, becoming partly cloudy with isolated showers and thundershowers from afternoon except in the extreme north but scattered in the south.

4. North-West Province:

Partly cloudy to cloudy and cool to warm with scattered showers and thundershowers.

5. Free State:

Cloudy and cool with scattered showers and thundershowers but isolated in the south-west. It will be cold in places in the east and north-east. It will become partly cloudy from the west later.

6. Northern Cape:

Cool along the coast and the southern and eastern interior, otherwise partly cloudy and warm but cloudy in the west at first. Isolated thunderstorms are expected over the extreme eastern and north-eastern parts.

The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong southerly to south-easterly.

7. Western Cape:

Cloudy over the central and eastern parts at first, otherwise fine to partly cloudy and cool with isolated morning showers along the south-east coast. It will be warm in places over the West coast District.

The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south-easterly but strong over the south-west.

8. Western Half Of The Eastern Cape:

Cloudy and cold with isolated showers and rain but scattered along the coast and adjacent interior.

The wind along the coast will be moderate south-westerly becoming moderate south-easterly.

9. Eastern Half Of The Eastern Cape:

Cloudy and cold to cool with isolated showers and thundershowers but scattered in the east and widespread along the wild coast and adjacent interior.

The wind along the coast will be light to moderate south-westerly at first otherwise southerly becoming light south-easterly in the afternoon.

10. Kwazulu-Natal:

Cloudy and cool with widespread showers and thundershowers but scattered in the north. It will be cold in places in the southern and south-western interior.

The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south-westerly to southerly.
