61-year-old Cecile Eledge from Nebraska gave birth to 2,7kg Uma Louise Dougherty-Eledge at the Nebraska Medical Centre in Omaha last Monday…

However, the healthy delivery of the newborn by a woman over sixty was not the only unusual thing about the birth. Cecile Eledge is actually little Uma’s grandmother.

According to reports, Matthew Eledge, and his husband, Elliot Dougherty wanted to expand their family. Dougherty’s sister, Lea Yribe willingly donated her eggs, but the couple struggled to find a suitable surrogate.

Eledge offered to carry the child, and after receiving a clean bill of health from the family doctor, she was given the go-ahead. Miraculously, Eledge got pregnant after the first round of IVF treatment.

The entire family supported Eledge throughout the pregnancy, and celebrated the successful birth last Monday.
