The Kitchen Design Project at Decorex Durban revealed the latest modern kitchen trends and we took a sneak peek at the top four
A home renovation often starts with the kitchen, a central home feature where meals are enjoyed and family stories shared.
“It’s important to remember that trends don’t come and go quickly,” explains Sian Cullingworth, Portfolio Director at Reed Exhibitions. “They emerge as a way to make living easier and more interesting, building on previous improvements and enhancing our overall lifestyle.”
She says that the spectacular installation by the Studio Collection gave a glimpse of the dominant global trends boasting urban sophistication with a local slant, all touching on this year’s Decorex theme, ‘Designing for Africa – feels like home’
Specialist supplier and distributor of board products and worktops, The Studio Collection and local kitchen designers worked together to showcase four exemplary kitchen settings curated with a selection of on-trend décor styles.
4 Exciting kitchen trends
Giving us a taste of the interesting kitchen trends showcased at Decorex Durban, The Studio Collection shares its top four kitchen trends for 2019:
1. Natural African grain veneers
We are seeing a move towards celebrating the very natural and warm features of this earthy look.
2. Crystal or high-gloss surfaces
Although matte finishes are a big conversation in the interior design zeitgeist, we are still seeing a strong preference for high-gloss finishes, with Rehau’s Crystal range being a major frontrunner in terms of the top pick.
