SABC TV and radio presenter Samora Mangesi is recovering after being physically assaulted until he lost consciousness in an alleged racist attack on the West Rand in Johannesburg

In a lengthy Twitter thread Samora detailed how he was allegedly called a “monkey” and was severely beaten after he stopped to assist a group of white people whose car had overturned.

The alleged attack took place on Friday, 8 March in Roodepoort, Johannesburg.

“I had to be taken to the hospital in an ambulance. Even whilst I was being put in the ambulance one of these guys tried to run my friend over with his bakkie and the paramedics had to intervene,” read one of his tweets.

Samora shared pictures of injuries he sustained to his face, which included cuts inside his mouth and bruising to the left side of his body

He was also allegedly kicked to the ground and was hit on the back of the head, which resulted in him losing consciousness.

Samora said that he initially thought about just letting the entire incident go, but was told this was not the first time a black man was attacked on the West Rand in a similar incident.

The TV personality has since opened a police case against the unknown attackers, using registration numbers, photos and videos.

For now, the presenter is on the mend and is going about his business until the attackers are brought to book.
