South Africans finally got to watch Comedy Central’s Roast of AKA on TV this week

The roast was recorded a few weeks ago during a sold out show at The Teatro at Montecasino in Johannesburg.

Things got ugly during the recording, with some of the celebrity panellist looking visible unimpressed by some of the jokes.

While AKA got his fair share of roasting, stars like Mark Fish also got burned badly.

One panellist joked that the soccer icon had “more blackouts than Eskom”, while another added he had “more divorces that Bafana trophies”. Ouch!

“Guys someone please go check on Mark Fish, looks like his taking this thing to the heart. #RoastOfAKA,” one Twitter user wrote.

AKA also did some roasting of his own.

“Pearl your career is the opposite of your complexion, it’s not fair,” he told his former nemesis Pearl Thusi.

Here’s what went down

Pearl Thusi

Pearl Thusi proved that she was worthy of the first female roast master title by showing all the panellists major flames onstage. First up in the firing line, was the guest of honour himself. Pearl used autotune to introduce AKA. The rapper has been accused of using too much autotune in the past. That was just the beginning. She took a swipe at AKA’s love life.

“AKA is the only guy I know who has been a side chick’s side chick,” Pearl said with a straight face. Ouch! But she saved one of her shadiest comments for Nigerian superstar Davido.

“Davido’s dad is a billionaire in Nigeria but in Mzansi it’s lots of thousands of rands.” The musician did not look impressed. The actress was even roasting people while the show was airing. “What is Pearl wearing?” one tweep asked. “Something you can’t afford,” she replied. Eina!

Hottest roasts: To Pierre van Pletzen, who was a late cancellation: “We were going to have Oubaas from 7de Laan here. But it turns out he died in 1997 and no one noticed.”

Coldest shade: “I hear Quantico was cancelled after you were in it. With your talent, I’m surprised they haven’t cancelled the Roast already.” – Mark Fish
