Not all of us are blessed with models’ lengthy legs, and have to accept our ‘shorty pants’ genes.  Although this can have some advantages (like getting kids’ discounts!) it does mean that we have to be selective when it comes to style and fashion…

Short people can still look exceptionally stylish – just look at the likes of Kylie Minogue, Jada Pinkett Smith, Ariana Grande, and Salma Hayek. But there are a few fashion rules to bear in mind to bring out your best features, and give the illusion of height.

Here are a few tips that will guarantee that you look on-point when you’re a little on the shrot side!

With short height there are three objectives you have to follow when dressing. These include how to appear taller, create a flattering silhouette and avoid a ‘boxy’ look.

How to appear shorter

Try to choose clothing sizes that fit closer to your body – bulky, baggy items make you appear even shorter. Go for shift dresses or buttoned shirt dresses that have few colour variations and are monochrome.

Another obvious way to appear taller is to wear heels. However, avoid heels that are too high as they will make you look out of proportion.

Wear high-waisted skirts that fall just below the knee and wide legged pants. Also choose vertical patterns and V-neck tops as they will make you appear taller as well.

Create a flattering silhouette

The right silhouette will give you a sexy look. Well-fitted dresses are a must-have if you want to have a flattering silhouette.

Wear high-waisted pants with a crop top and make sure that your top is tucked in so that you maintain that elongated appearance.

Avoid a boxy look

Avoid big clothes but choose fitted clothes instead. Try not to wear accessories that are oversized or bold and do not layer too much.

Always wear your belt high in your waist or make sure that it is narrow and be careful of wearing wide tops and wide bottoms.
