The Little Things That Make a Big Difference’ is an article series outlining weight loss and diet interventions that may seem insignificant, but can make a huge difference to the success of your diet plan.

Quality control

When you’re choosing a bed, or a pair of shoes, or a car I imagine you think quite hard about the  quality of the item you’re going to buy, right? You may even obsess about getting the BEST thing for that moment, and the future.

So how hard do you think about the quality of fruit, vegetables, bread and meats that occupy your kitchen? How hard do you try to find the best versions of these things that literally power you through each day?

Invest in good quality food

If you want to be healthy, lose weight, and live a long time, then you really want to be thinking about spending a little extra cash on good quality foods. I’m not asking you to buy “extra-virgin, free range, grass fed everything”, but if you’re buying processed meats and refined bread on a regular basis, and then wondering why you don’t feel so great, then you need to give this some thought.

What you put into your body makes you feel a certain way. And you can probably tell that processed sausages and white bread are not the ideal options for healthful living.

So how do you implement easiest quality control, then?

Easy. Try to eat as many fresh foods as possible. It comes from a tin, or on a polystyrene tray, or out of a packet, then you don’t want to eat these foods too often.

Lots of fruits, veggies, eggs, grains, maybe some dairy, and some fish, poultry and meat should make up the vast majority of your diet. If you’ve got that going, then you’re doing well.
