If any food in history has been both extolled for its virtues and condemned for its failings, it’s bread.
Lately, all people can tell you is how BAD bread is for your health and your waistline. But surely there’s more to it than that? I mean, some of the healthiest civilisations in history have been bread-eaters. Bread was developed as a staple human food, so surely it can’t be THAT bad?
Here are some things to consider before you give up on bread entirely:
1. Real bread is healthy
Bread, in its truest form, is a relatively healthy food. If it’s unrefined, and made with stoneground, wholegrain flour, then you’re eating something that’s a fantastic source of energy, fibre, and various other nutritional goodies. You obviously need to keep your portion size in check, but the bottom line there is that real bread is very filling, so it helps with keeping you full for longer, and stopping you from snacking in between meals.
