So often people opt to grab a meal in a restaurant located in a shopping centre – it’s convenient and easy…

But, if you’re going to spend money on a meal not cooked at home, why not turn it into far more of an adventure?

In so many parts of South Africa, we are privileged to have both great cuisine and stunning settings in which to enjoy it. Considering that tourists from all over the world flock to the country to enjoy our natural beauty, we as locals should surely also appreciate the treasures we have around us.

Here is a list of restaurants that stand out for their great views – and wonderful food:

1.       East Head Café (Knysna)

The Garden Route area is an iconic region for natural beauty and stunning views. Situated on the rocks of the famous Eastern Head of the Knysna Heads, the East Head Café boasts spectacular views – looking through the Knysna Heads towards the ocean. The Restaurant is open every day between 08:00 and 15:30 so be sure to swing by for some breakfast, lunch (or both!)

2.       The Gorge Restaurant (Port Shepstone)

One of the best ways of knowing a good place to eat is to watch where the locals go. In this case, they’ll lead you straight to the Gorge Restaurant. This restaurant has the most amazing view points, and could definitely be a winner in a competition for the restaurant with the most stunning backdrop. They serve scrumptious breakfasts and multi-coursed dinners until 10pm, and diners can savour the tastes of dinner outside under the stars – an ideal bushveld experience.

3.       Two Oceans Restaurant (Cape Point, Cape Town)

Whether you want to explore your own city, simply enjoy a truly stunning view, or if you have tourist friends visiting, the Two Oceans Restaurant at Cape Point is the place for you. From its long balcony area, diners can feast on some of the best ocean views overlooking False Bay, while feasting from a menu featuring everything a seafood lover could possibly desire – and more.
