Two strangers have spoken of their unbreakable bond, formed when one gave birth to the other’s son – after she lost her baby boy and feared she would never be a mom…

In 2015, Julie Wong (41) collapsed at 36 weeks pregnant. She suffered a haemorrhage – and when she awoke days later from an induced coma, she was told that she had lost her baby and her uterus.

Julie feared that she would never have a child of her own…

Until she met 26-year-old Kadie Fairbrother who offered to be her surrogate. Julie and her husband Peter were blessed with the arrival of a healthy son, Jacob, in December 2018.

Julie and Kadie – who became close friends throughout the pregnancy – now look to challenge negative perceptions about the surrogacy process and what it means for hopeful parents. As Julie says, “I want people to realise that surrogacy isn’t a transactional, rent-a-womb relationship. Kadie and I are friends for life now”.
