Afrikaans singer and businessman Andre Schwartz recently announced in a heartfelt interview that he has been battling motor neurone disease, just as former South African rugby player Joost van der Westhuizen did
The singer claims he was diagnosed back in April 2018 and that while the diagnosis was devastating, he remains positive and is ready to tackle the disease head on.
The star was flooded with heartfelt messages from fans since he broke the news and the star reveals that the outpouring of support has been everything he needs to hear.
In an emotional letter, the star thanked his supporters for all the love he has received so far
“Many of you have been made aware by means of media that I have a strain of Motor Neuron Disease. I am really doing well, feeling fine and so very positive to tackle this head-on in which ever way I can. I have realized that I cannot remove this thing, but must live with it – but I am in front of it and not alongside it. For as long as I am able, I will not allow MND to define me,” Andre says.
The star adds, “I have experienced the most astounding and humbling avalanche of love and support from my remarkable Mom, dearest friends, acquaintances and total strangers.
“My heart is filled with overflowing gratitude. Your support is the additional motivator for me to stay focussed and strong and positive. My treatment has recently been approved by the FDA and incredible results have been achieved in warding off symptoms. I feel that I have been granted a second chance and I thank God for allowing me the opportunity to valuate and take stock.”
We are astounded by the star’s bravery and positive outlook and we hope that his treatment helps him live a long, healthy life.
