Not having adequate levels of hydration in the body can lead to a host of problems, including things like poor brain function, drowsiness, lack of energy and inability to lose weight. Yup – you read that right! Weight loss can be affected by your hydration levels.
Water is really important in helping your body to digest your food properly. Good digestion means that your body is able to process and eliminate fats and toxins from your body more quickly. If they remain in your body, they are stored in fat cells.
Being hydrated also reduces fluid retention (your body doesn’t hang on to water because it knows that there is adequate supply), and being properly hydrated also decreases cravings and hunger pangs.
We often confuse feelings of thirst for feelings of hunger. Have a big glass of water FIRST if you’re feeling peckish. If you’re still feeling hungry 30 minutes later, then you can have a snack.
Here are four ways to ensure that you get the water you so desperately need in your diet:
1. Obviously, drink it
Drinking a good amount of water (or other unsweetened, non-alcoholic liquids) every day is the primary way to get the hydration you require. A good way to get this right is to have something to drink after every time you visit the bathroom to urinate. This keeps the levels up, and should be a good way to remember to drink something.
