Ntando Duma and Junior de Rocka’s public spat over child support has led to some interesting discussions about maintenance on social media

Actress Kgomotso Christopher took to Twitter to share her own experience with her parents fighting over child maintenance.

The conversation started when media personality Penny Lebyane said that she wished men could experience what single moms go through raising children.

“I wish as women we could try for three months give the man the children to do all the things we do and see what happens. Just drop them let them take over. Swap lives nje,” she tweeted.

Kgomotso told Penny that her father took custody of her and her siblings and things didn’t go so well.

“Hehehehee. Gambling with your kids. My dad took custody of us so he wouldn’t have to pay maintenance. Then he carried on with his new life. We just became his roommates,” she replied.

Penny added that she wanted women to feel “unburdened” for once

“Roommates Kgomotso. This lot will survive on WiFi and takeaways. I just wanna see an unburdened generation of women. We deserve joy too.

Some of Penny and Kgomotso’s followers also joined the conversation.

One Twitter user pointed out that mothers were also to blame for some of the custody drama, as some took “revenge” against their children’s father after a bitter split, which ultimately affected the kids.

“Interesting take. I hear you. We never know why unions fall apart. Whomever is to blame, it’s definitely not the kids who need to suffer. They didn’t ask to be born,” Kgomotso replied.

Pearl Thusi also shared her views on the matter

She told her female followers to “stop having unprotected sex with men who can’t afford what you believe your children will need”.

One Twitter user told the actress there was too much pressure on men.

“Pearl don’t you think as male we have families to take care of ….. extended family members?? why when you all break up the demands are high but when dating women are understanding? I feel too much pressure is put on males for no reason,” he tweeted.

Pearl hit back, saying that women also had to take care of their extended family so there is no excuse.

“And you think as a woman – we don’t look after extended family either?! Black tax is not gender specific. Calm down.”
