The Golden Globes are all about fashion (with some movies and TV thrown in too), and this year’s awards definitely gave us an indication of what all the stars will be wearing this year.

It’s that time of the year – awards season, and with awards season comes red carpets, and with red carpets comes fashion. The Golden Globes gave us no shortage of fashion or fabulous celebrities and we were definitely taking notes.

The Golden Globes gave us no shortage of fashion and fabulous celebrities, and we were definitely taking notes.

These are the style lessons we picked up from the Golden Globes red carpet:

How to rock a dress over pants

If one of the most beautiful women in the world is doing it, you’ve got nothing to be afraid of. The always-stylish Julia Roberts looked gorgeous wearing a dress over pants at the Golden Globes.

This was a big trend back in the 2000s and we’re glad to see it coming back. Wear a mini dress or a dress with cut-outs or a slit over slim pants or jeans to show you’re ahead of the fashion pack.

Match you outfit with your…hair

Yes, your hair. Lady Gaga coordinated her over-the-top periwinkle dress to her hair, as did screen legend Jamie Lee Curtis – who matched her white hair with her white frock. We think this is an excellent way to make a statement at a big event, and it’s sure to be a trend on and off the red carpet this year.

Make this look work for you by finding a great wig (they’re still a huge beauty trend right now) that matches your look.

Learn a lesson from Lady Gaga, and don’t pick a colour that’s exactly the same as your dress, one or two shades lighter is a much safer bet.
