In 2018, fans of South African gossip and entertainment were truly given a year to remember
We saw scandals and shade, witnessed break-ups and make-ups, we saw celebrities give birth and we had to say goodbye to several legends.
It was a year filled with rumours and fake news, along with incredible pieces of investigative journalism and mass movement thanks to Mzansi Twitter.
It’s almost impossible to document every single notable event that happened in our industry this year, but we’ve tried our best to find 10 of the most memorable events from 2018.
Here are some of the stories that had the whole of Mzansi talking this year…
AKA and Bonang’s split in early 2018, Supa Mega was left looking like a defeated man. He deleted all his content from Twitter before taking a brief hiatus from the social network.
When he made his return, he was a shadow of the pompous rapper we had come to know. He really took this break-up hard.
AKA wasn’t the only star to call it quits in the love department this year. Thando Thabethe, Pearl Modiadie, Ayanda Thabethe, Liesl Laurie and Nomzamo M all split from their significant others as well.
The way I miss them guys 😢😭❤️😫 pic.twitter.com/TeOloaaiqp

If anybody can turn tragedy into comedy, it’s South African Twitter.
After Bra Hugh Masekela passed away, many fans sent their tributes to the fallen jazz icon, including former Bafana Bafana star, Mark Fish. The only problem was that Mark Fish tagged the wrong jazz icon (one who was very much alive) prompting one of the funniest hashtags of the year: The Mark Fish Challenge.
