It’s been a year full of ups and downs for the British royal family

We were treated to two royal weddings and exciting baby news in 2018. But it has not always been smooth sailing for the royal family this year.

Between Meghan’s sister Samantha Markle’s constant criticism and her father Thomas Markle’s embarrassing staged paparazzi photos, the royal family has had to deal with more than a few PR nightmares.

But Meghan’s addition to the royal family has provided some extra coverage for ‘The Firm’ around the globe.

The fourth most searched news item for the year was the royal family!

The world clearly cannot get enough of the BRF.

Here’s a look at the family’s eventful 2018

The birth of Prince Louis

Prince William and his wife Catherine (aka Kate) welcomed their third child into the world in 2018.

A royal nightmare

Meghan’s family continued to be a bane of her existence. From the moment it was revealed that the Suits actress was dating the world’s most eligible bachelor, the Markles have had nothing but bad things to say about Megs.

That didn’t change in 2018, with Meghan’s older sister Samantha Markle doing everything to discredit her. She has called Meghan fake, princess pushy, and a “Duch-a*s”. She also took shots at Harry, and the royal family were also in her firing line. Samantha plans to reveal a scandalous book about her sister in 2019.

But the royal family’s biggest PR nightmare came in the form of an unexpected family member – her father Thomas Markle. Days before his daughter’s wedding, Thomas was caught staging paparazzi pictures – allegedly at Samantha’s encouragement. Thomas would go on to apologise for his “mistake”, telling the media that he “felt bad”. Amidst the staged photo drama, Thomas announced that he would no longer be walking his daughter down the aisle as he had had a heart attack and could not make the long flight.

And don’t get us started on Meghan’s nephew’s plans to start a special marijuana line called Markle Sparkle and her brother’s letter urging Harry not to marry her.

It seems that the only family member who has contact with Meghan is her mother Doria.
