Ice-cream stick Christmas trees

You will need

  • Ice-cream sticks
  • Poster paint in various colours
  • Paint brush or sponge brush
  • Ribbon
  • Craft glue
  • Glitter glue, tinsel, bells, buttons and mini pom-poms
  • Cardboard
  • Glitter
  • Brown cardboard

Method

  1. Glue the sticks together at the corners to form a triangle.
  2. Paint the ice-cream sticks and allow to dry.
  3. Glue a short piece of ribbon to the top of the triangle at the back to form a hanging loop.
  4. Cut out a small star from the cardboard and cover with glue and glitter. Allow to dry and attach to the top of the triangle in front of the ribbon loop.
  5. Cut out a 4cm x 4cm square and glue it to the bottom of the triangle to make the base of the Christmas tree.
  6. Let your child decorate the rest of the tree.

Reindeer baubels

You will need

  • Ice-cream sticks
  • Poster paint
  • Paint brush or sponge brush
  • Googly eyes
  • Red buttons
  • Red ribbon
  • Craft glue

Method

  1. Glue the sticks together at the corners to form a “V” shape. Now glue a third stick 3cm down from the open end of the “V” to give the reindeer horns.
  2. Paint the sticks with brown paint on both sides and allow to dry.
  3. Glue on the googly eyes and the red button to make the reindeer’s nose.
  4. Cut a small piece of ribbon and glue to the back of the horizontal stick to form a loop.

Toilet-roll angels

These are easy for your littles ones to make and can be used to decorate the tree or placed on a shelf or the mantelpiece above the Christmas stockings.

You will need

  • Toilet rolls
  • Paint brush or sponge brush
  • White poster paint
  • White cardboard
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Craft glue
  • Kokis
  • Glitter glue
  • Glittery pipe cleaner

Method

  1. Paint the toilet rolls white and allow to dry.
  2. Decorate the roll with glitter glue.
  3. Cut a small oval for the face from a piece of paper and draw on hair and facial features using the kokis before glueing it to the top of the toilet roll.
  4. Cut the pipe cleaner in half and make a loop at one end.
  5. Glue the pipe cleaner behind the face, on the inside of the toilet roll, with the loop over the head to form a halo.
  6. To make the wings, fold the cardboard in half and trace your little one’s hand onto the cardboard with his wrist on the fold. Cut out the hand shape and open the card.
  7. Alternatively, fold the cardboard in half and draw angel wings before cutting out.
  8. Decorate with glitter glue and stick to the back of the toilet roll when dry.
