Beverages that are high in sugar can wreak havoc with your blood sugar levels and can increase your daily calorie count by hundreds.

High sugar beverages

Many of us become addicted to the sweet and satisfying taste of sweetened beverages, whether they be fizzy drinks, energy drinks, fruit juices or hot beverages such as teas and coffees that have sugar or sweeteners added to them.

Constantly having these beverages, sometimes more than one on a daily basis can raise your calorie count immensely and if you are not burning off these calories they can lead to weight gain relatively easily.

Suggestions on how to cut down

Cut down on sugary beverages one step at a time. For example, if you tend to have a large mug of coffee with sugar and full cream, consider cutting down on the amount of cream or number of teaspoons of sugar that you are adding to the beverage. Replace fizzy drinks or energy drinks with water. You can add a slice of lemon or a sprig of mint if you need some flavour.
