Cape Town is vibrant and cosmopolitan; and living in the Mother City means non-stop action…

But, we all need a time-out from the buzz of city life. And, when you do, there are few better day trips than exploring the beauty and variety of the West Coast. And, as a bonus, the gorgeous towns along the way (like Langebaan and Saldanha) are less than two hours away.

So, head onto the R27 for a West Coast daytrip for the books.

This is also the home of trails for 4 x 4 and hiking, as well as the !Khwa ttu San Heritage Centre, where the unique heritage of the ancient San folk is celebrated (this is especially great for little ones).

There are restaurants right on the beachfront and gorgeous houses overlooking the white sands and blue waters of this West Coast town.

2.     West Coast National Park

From Cape Town: 98km / 90 minutes

It’s hard (almost impossible) to beat the first time a visitor to this park sees the Kraalbaai Lagoon and its beach.

It is otherworldly in its pristine beauty and is absolutely irresistible for a swim on a hot day. The West Coast National Park is awesome to explore too. It is home to ostrich, fox, caracal, African wild cat, springbok, eland, and zebra. The roads are in excellent condition and easy to navigate.
