Businesswoman and Max Lichaba’s ex, Thandi Mavata, has lashed out against the horrible comments surrounding actress Sophie Ndaba’s weight loss over the years.

Sophie, who is now married to Max, adopted a healthier lifestyle about a year ago to better manage being diabetic.
This has resulted in Sophie losing an incredible amount of weight. The TV star’s dramatic body transformation has seen her become the target of vicious rumours, which have included insinuations of an HIV related disease.

Over the weekend Thandi shared a lengthy post on Facebook slamming such suggestions and applauded Sophie for making a change.

“Sophie Ndaba now Lichaba by marriage deals with SA sharing her pictures and laughing and has to also deal with the fact that for more than a decade she’s been battling diabetes and now it’s really uncontrollable.

“The stigma surrounding weight loss is so painful because more people still believe you lose weight only if you’re diagnosed with AIDS related diseases. Today I saw someone who posted ‘she has to go get tested for HIV’,” read part of her post.

Thandi labelled the comment “ignorant and disgusting” and said she admired Sophie for fighting for her life.

“I admire her for choosing to lose weight, changing her eating habits, than to lose her life and leaving her kids without a mother,” she added.

Sophie also took to Instagram to address the negative comments, saying that she is proud of her choice to lose weight.

“Being overweight landed me in hospital. I made my weight-loss choice. I’m proud of it.”

She said that some people’s comments saddened her but she’s learnt not to let such negativity get to her.

“I stopped worrying what any negative person thinks long ago. Just surprised that grown people share such heartless opinions.”
