Crunchy carrots

Carrots are a crunchy and sweet vegetable that is a common accompaniment to most salads. It can be added to soups and stir-frys too. This vegetable is bright orange in colour due to the abundance of an antioxidant known as beta carotene.

The high beta carotene content may help to lower the risk of lung as well as prostate cancer. According to Healthline, a study showed that ‘for each serving of carrots per week, participant’s risk of prostrate cancer decreased by five percent’.

Similarly, another study revealed that consuming this fabulous vegetable may assist in decreasing a smoker’s risk of getting lung cancer. Smokers who ate carrots at least once every week were compared to those who did not consume the vegetable. The study showed that those who did not ‘eat carrots had a three times greater risk of developing lung cancer’.
