11 pretty plaits perfect for spring/summer:

Braiding for beginners

Crown braids that anyone can do

Is there anything more whimsical? Channel your inner princess with these super easy crown braids. The first option uses a simple three-strand braid, while the second incorporates both a dutch and lace braid. Whichever option you choose, make sure you loosely curl your hair beforehand to get that boho look.

Learn how to do a fishtail braid

Fishtail braids are perfect for when you want something a little more intricate and different. Next time you need to pull your hair back but aren’t in the mood for an updo, try this simple fishtail braid. To be honest, we love this style purely because of how cool it looks. Talk about minimal effort for maximum results!

Faux fishtail (for anyone who struggled with the first technique)

Luxy Hair is the place to go if you’re looking for chic yet easy-to-do styles. Plus, Mimi wears clip-in extensions in nearly all her videos so that’s an added bonus if you do have extensions but aren’t sure what to do with them. Here’s her take on a faux fishtail braid which look just as good as the real thing.

Festival-inspired glitter buns for the adventurous

Warmer weather means tons of outdoor fun, and there is no better place to rock an outrageous hairstyle than at a music festival. Instead of the usual tousled waves, why not opt for hair that’s neatly braided back into two low buns, then amp it up with a ton of glitter along your parting? It’s not for everyone but it’s definitely eye-catching.

The upside-down braid complete with a bun

Still working on that summer body? No judgement – in fact, we want to help keep you motivated. Getting through a workout is much easier when your locks are pushed back and out of the way.  Of course, it’s even better when the style can go from the office to the gym (or vice versa).

Starting at the nape of your neck (with your hair flipped over) do an upside-down French or Dutch braid. Stop braiding about halfway up your head, then simply gather your hair into a ponytail and twist into a bun.

Twisted pigtails for effortless glam

This is another cheat for anyone who enjoys the look of braids but wants a bit of an easy twist. Margot Robbie rocked this look on the red carpet and so can you. It’s a great way to spice up a formal look so pair it with a floor-length frock, heels and a red lip.

Edgy basketweave braids

Don’t panic! This style is easier to create than it looks. Start off with just a small section and once you get the hang of it you can go crazy and cover your whole head. The key to this look is making sure your sections are all the same size. Jamie Wiley starts off here with 5 sections and the result is mesmerising…

For the short-haired girls

We most certainly would not leave you out!  Yes you really can braid short hair and to prove just how easy it is, here are 10 looks you can create today. This is especially useful if you’re growing out your hair and it’s currently in that awkward in-between phase where everything about it just irritates you… you’re welcome!

Rose braids are simply stunning

This may just be the loveliest thing we’ve come across.  It is wonderfully uncomplicated and so striking you may just want to wear it everywhere you go. Watch this video from @braids_for_my_hair  and get started already…

A pretty updo that’s SO easy

If you need an elegant updo, try this lace-braid pin-up style instead of a traditional chignon. It will keep your hair up without a bunch of bobby pins (bye-bye headaches) and can go from day to night in an instant.
