Can swimming give your legs a good workout?

Swimming as a sport or as a form of exercise is great as it gets your whole body moving and helps keep your cardiovascular system in great shape. But if you want to give your legs in particular a good workout and want to have them toned before beach season arrives, then you may want to give this area a little extra attention.

Use a kickboard!

According to WebMD, “swimming is less helpful for the legs simply because people tend not to kick very hard.” They suggest using a kickboard when swimming so that your legs will have to work harder in order to make you move. Imagine how many more calories you can burn in this way! Kickboards can be purchased from any swimming shop, most sport shops and even some large supermarkets.

Join a swimming group

If you currently do not know how to swim, consider joining a swimming class or get one-on-one training, depending on your level of swimming. Supervision is always best, especially if you are a beginner.
