Seek comfort away from food!

One of the reasons so many people lose control of their weight in their thirties and forties is due to the stress of life. Work, finance, family, the future – all these things that often seem to operate beyond the realm of one’s control.

It’s hectic! You know what I’m talking about here, right?

The problem (diet-wise) is twofold

First, stress creates a storage environment in your body. So you’re a lot less likely to shed kilos if you’re really stressed. And second, food is just so damn comforting!

When you’ve had a stressful day and it seems like nothing is going right, you get home and all you want is a great big bowl of pasta, some bread, a chocolate, and a glass or three of red wine. It DOES make some of the stress go away, and you may just get a good night’s sleep out of the deal too. But this way of living will catch up with you, and you’ll end up heavy, and wondering how it happened!

Weight-loss friendly comfort food: 5 Healthy winter recipes

Seek comfort elsewhere

It’s really important to understand this, and learn to seek comfort elsewhere, because food and alcohol are a real nightmare when it comes to their long-term effects.

Maybe try a long, hot bath (if you’re not living in a drought-stricken area).

Or daily exercise –  maybe a martial art. Or make a time every evening to have an honest conversation about your day with someone who cares about you.
