Now before you rush out and buy a load of so-called diet-friendly snack bars, take a minute to read this:

There are two issues with snack bars:

  1. There are some not-so-healthy ones on the market
  2. Dieters sometimes over-indulge because they think that they can eat as much as they want of a ‘healthy’ food

A snack bar can range from a really healthy option for a meal on the run to nothing better than a chocolate bar on the couch.

So why am I including these as a good thing to have in your diet kitchen?

Because I know you’ll read the labels and buy the healthy ones!

So, what should you buy? The basic idea here is to get something made with ingredients that are as natural as possible. You’re looking for real nuts, oats, fruit, and protein powder.

What you’re NOT looking to purchase is a sugar-laden, chocolate-coated sweet wrapped in a health-conscious looking package. You don’t want a ‘health’ bar from a candy company.

Then, how do you use them?

Well, the simple idea with snack bars is that they are great for meals on the run. So if you have a busy day, grab one and put it in your bag so you don’t end up eating a take-away lunch.

The other thing they can be good for is the occasional dessert, because they are sweet and fairly healthy. Just remember they still have calories, so you can’t at them all day long.

Get the right ones, and use them wisely, and snack bars can be a great part of your diet programme.
