5. Keep it interesting

The key to making the most of small garden is to combine functional elements – like a seating area – with enough visual interest so that there is something beautiful to see everywhere you look.

To do this, try to incorporate various textures, like stone, bark and interesting foliage, colours of plants, flowers and garden furniture, and focal points – like an archway framing the view of a bird bath.

With a little planning, you can transform even the smallest patch of land into a personal green haven.
