The ideal “weight loss pantry’ is an article series dedicated to uncovering what SHOULD be in your fridge (or pantry) if you hope to lose weight in 2018. So much focus is placed on what you shouldn’t eat if you’re dieting, so let’s check out what you should.

Stock up on:  Soup

Soup is a healthy meal. If you make it right, a soup is FULL of nutrients from all sorts of foods like vegetables, starches and meat. And the best thing is none of the goodness is lost in the cooking process – it’s all in the pot.

Soup is lower in calories than a regular (solid-food) meal, making it great for weight loss. It can also be high in protein and fibre, plus it’s a heart-warming meal that can be yanked out of the freezer and ready-to-eat in just a few minutes – perfect for those busy days where dieting seems “impossible”.

Pairing a soup with a lovely, freshly toasted whole-wheat or rye slice of toast makes it even more appetising, and healthy (just don’t overdo the number of slices you eat).

I like traditional soups like beef and vegetable, or bean and vegetable. Butternut soup is also fantastic, especially with some added sweet potato. But there are many, many soups to try. Be adventurous and fin your favourites. Then cook them and freeze them so you’ve always got some healthy meals on hand. Enjoy.
