What’s the easiest way to protect young bushes and plants without spoiling the aesthetics or fun side of your garden?

From the neighbour’s prowling kitty rolling on your herbs, to kids and pets terrorising your freshly-planted garden – a simple chicken-wire cloche or tepee can be the perfect solution…

All you’ll need is something to help you shape the cover – a large, upside-down flower pot should do it – wire cutters and your chicken wire.

Use some flexible wire to help close the open sides of the wire if there isn’t enough to twist it closed by itself.

Shape your cover with enough room to allow the plant to grow – you don’t want it to grow through the wire too much, as this will cause it to get tangled together and be difficult to remove later – and then place over the plants that need a little extra protection.
